The biggest recommendation I can give on writing dialogue that sounds in character for the character to say is, not to read the quests they are in, but to listen to the English dub whenever you get the chance. This may seem difficult especially if you are used to playing it in another language, but listening is key to getting the vibe of a character down. What you pay attention to is, not what they say, but the cadence in which they say it. Pay attention to the emotion in their voice, the speed at which they say things, the volume, etc. Once you get this down, it becomes easier to get an idea of what “sounds” right and what doesn’t. Cadence is an especially powerful thing. By training your ears to a character’s cadence, you can get a better idea of which words they would prefer to use, the lengths of their sentences, and things of the sort.

For example, reader asks Zhongli to dinner and he accepts. How would he respond? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so I accept. Thank you for the invitation.” But that doesn’t sound right, does it? Is Zhongli the type of person that uses many contractions? I don’t think so, so let’s fix it. “Hmm, I am not busy this evening, so I accept. Thank you for the invitation.” But would he say “I accept?” Perhaps, but it still doesn’t sound right. How has he accepted proposals in the past? A bit of research shows he has said “sure.” How can I mix that in? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so sure. Thank you for the invitation.” But hmm… the second sentence doesn’t sound right. What else could he say instead? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so sure. It would be my pleasure.” That sounds a lot better.

Some people may ask why you can’t do these things while listening to another language. Personally, I don’t believe you can. If you are not fluent in those other languages, your ears are not properly trained enough to understand the nuance of the ways they speak. The correct emotion and tone will come through, yes, but you still won’t be able to intuitively know what sounds right and what does not. You only will get this sense by listening to it in the language you choose to write in.

The only downside to this is that your writing will become based upon the English translation of the game. As many people know, the portrayal of characters in English often does not completely match the portrayals in Chinese. This is especially so for characters like Zhongli, Xiao, and Kaeya. A lot is lost in the translation and dubbing process. Characters do not vibe the same. Thus, your portrayals will be more true to English, but not how it technically is “supposed” to be. Personally, I don’t necessarily believe this is a bad thing. However, it is something that can bother people. The only way I can imagine getting around it is by playing the game with the Chinese dub and by following accounts that speak Chinese and can give insight on the literal translations and what they mean and imply.

I’m gonna be honest with y’all. It’s ultimately gonna be fine for most of you. I’m convinced many of y’all aren’t aware of 1.) how decentralized government in the US is or the sheer number of units of government, and how this makes it difficult to control, standardize, or dictate any uniform policy across this country; 2.) how difficult it is to pass any legislation, ever because the process is so long and convoluted and varied; 3.) how dysfunctional the Republican caucus has always been; they’ll be largely unable to achieve much as different extreme factions continue to squabble; 4.) just how much big money interests will prevent Trump from enacting—like—so much of what he’s promised, especially regarding medicine, pharmaceuticals, and food. (You think big Ag is gonna let people drink raw milk? You think they’d let him repeal such a regulation, opening themselves to lawsuit—among other issues? You think they’d even provide it; that there’d be a large market for bullshit? The crunchy moms and Trad Cath dads are quick gonna realize that none of the social scripts they want to force our society to obey are possible to implement.); and 5.) how many organizations are doing good work providing for the disadvantaged and marginalized in the ground, and how many influential organizations with lots of resources are fighting for civil rights. Doomerism is such a wack (and oft white) thing to do. Makes no sense.

Yeah, Trump smashes and wrecks things. He’s unstable. He revels in cruelty. He’s unable to successfully run or organize anything. He’s selfish and every policy and action he makes is for his benefit and his alone, often to the detriment of others. But the US isn’t going anywhere, and we’re not headed for any radical change. Things will become more challenging or differently challenging than they were before, yes. But not much in this country is likely going to change. Trump represents nothing if not stagnation and the death throes of what was.

I'm still sort of on hiatus here, but yeah.... so this happened.

Things I can add from a personal experience:

the ruling only took 5 hours, which is considered incredibly quick;

the LGBT flag is now considered as offensive and as criminal as a exhibiting a swastika and you will be fined or worse for displaying it;

maintaining any kind of queer organization (club / event / pride / theme party) is punishable by roughly 12 years in prison;

they purposefully elected to outlaw this vague and ephemeral "international public movement" because there is no such thing as an organized public queer movement, which means legally no one can contest / dispute / etc. this ruling; or, at the very least, it would be very difficult; it is being ridiculed by some sources as absurd because it sounds like Russia is afraid of some conglomerate gay boogeyman, but the wording is actually purposefully nefarious;

none of it is surprising because this was the social understanding in this country for years, following years of other tightening of screws; i remember the propaganda ad from a few years back which was run in support of prohibiting gay couples from adopting; it was vile; it has been getting more and more homophobic and vile here with each passing day;

this line in the article is crucial: "The authorities portray LGBT activism as something inherently Western and hostile to Russia." -- russia is being deeply separated from the rest of the world by governmental propaganda, and anything Western has been considered for over a decade as malicious influence; this is directly tied to the war, too, because the public outcry and condemnation of the war by the West and the withdrawing of business and other punitive reactions are just being trotted out as more proof that the West is the immoral enemy and hostile to this nation.

so, today we, russian queers, may become "extremists" by decision of russian supreme court and thus our existence will be silenced and erased. any queer activism will be impossible for us. Okay alright sorry for all the sudden German politics influx but lemme explain what happened so far and why Germans are losing it a bit:

The tldr? Our government is getting a divorce and it's turning messy with elections being called early and now being called even earlier.

The longer version?

Okay so, groundwork first:

in Germany there is a coalition currently in power called the Ampel(traffic lights) bc the colours of the party are red, yellow and green (or not anymore or for much longer??). They're centrist slightly more left leaning than right leaning. (You could argue about that I am aware). There has been infighting for as long as this coalition has been going on. It is also the first three party coalition since y know, the Last Time.

So. Enough groundwork. The yellow party (FDP) has a finance minister (Christiane Lindner) it's this guy

You will see him in memes I am sure. We don't like him. He's an asshole and has blocked every meaningful change that the coalition had been trying to accomplish. He also got his finance plan blocked by our highest court because parts were against our Constitution.

(.... I am oversimplifying hard here it's actually more complicated than that and not fully his fault, but it's also not the focus)

What WAS the fault though of him and the FDP was that they had a strong position of "saving money at all costs" which made bigger and bigger rifts with the two other coalition partners who were more leaftleaning. The war in Ukraine, Infrastructure, climate change - there were many places that needed more money and Lidner was like naaahhhhh for no fucking reason other than "oh we need to save money!!"

Long story short there have been arguing all the fucking time and therefore have started to lose approval. Drastically lose approval. As on for the first time since the Last Time there is a far right party in charge for part of the country that is also being investigated for being Nazis. (Oversimplifying again).

Which is. Worrying. You know. Especially with Trump now being elected. It has us all a little skittish.

The finance minister has also now been fired.

You see. We were all still trying to stomach Trump winning the US election, when Scholz, in the same fucking evening, fired Lindner.

And not in a polite way. Nah. Olaf fucking Scholz our Chancellor, notorious for saying literally nothing, and with a running joke that he regularly stops existing bc that man Does Not Take Stances, a spine of wet cardboard, delivered this yesterday evening:

And it is insane alright. For his standards and German politic standards thats the equivalent of calling Lindner a egomaniacal bitch that has only his self interest at heart and can not be trusted.

Lindner and his party have been pulverised in all recent elections. Which means that after he was fired, the FDP completely withdrew from the coalition and all minister from the FDP resigned.

....well all but one who apparently stayed in his positions because he's leaving the FDP over this. What sort of shitty backstabbing kindergarten fight is this. (Jokes aside hes the minister of transportation and says he needs to stay in office in important projects. Which. True. Having minister resigning en mass is not good)

Which all lead to new elections being called in Germany.

Mind you, that's not usual ok. I know other countries have systems where they can call an election whenever but that is not a thing that normally happens here. We have a schedule alright. (Insert obligatory "Germans and their plans and structure" joke)

So new elections are called for spring, nearly a year early. Cool cool cool. With a right wing rising in Germany and deeply unpopular current leadership. On the eve of motherfucking trump getting elected.

Habeck, leader of the green party and one of the few policians in germany I think is vaguely liked by ppl (the general attitude in German politics is less "I like this guy" and more "you are the least shitty choice I guess") has appearently also nearly started crying after the news broke. So. Yeah.

Now. Let's make this shitshow complete,alright?

There is this party. CDU. They had been in charge for a very long time in Germany. Centrist, right leaning, with the afd on the rising even more right leaning than before. Their current leader is Friedrich Merz, as unpleasant as human beings can go.

He has now called for the new election to be not in a few months but like. To be called next week.
